Well here is a picture I drew for a friend of my friend who is my friend but I don't know him well enough to say he is just my friend friend.

That is dumb, he is my friend, anyway, it's the main character of the comic book story I never work on. I actually messed up my own design.

I also didn't get to scan the finished picture, so I only have the sketch. Hopefully my pal scans it so I can put it up here. If not, whatevs, I'll just draw some more pictures of her eventually. Haven't been doing the 2 hour pictures because I was being lazy after finishing that last arcade stick picture.

So this is it, all done. I'm sure I could do better tones, but I really have no idea how. I'm also using a dated program that isn't photoshop simply because that is what I am used to.

I guess my options are either learn to draw value and shading onto the art or get better at doing these tones digitally. It'll probably end up a combination of the two.

Either way, finished commission number two! YEAH.

Now I just have to put gray tones on it (something I've never done) and it's complete. Success. I have to learn how to ink better and figure out a method for efficiently scanning it into the computer so it looks like what I drew on the paper.

So here is some progress on a picture I "started" on my birthday.

Technically I just did the sketch and then didn't really do anything else for awhile.

I learned how to take the blue pencils away from my inks, so that is good I guess. Even if I did do it in a ghetto fashion.

Maybe I will try to do a two hour picture before I go to bed because I have to go to my real life job that I dislike very much.

So here is day two of two hour drawing. I did this one wrong because I rushed it and got it all done in one hour. I could have worked on the anatomy or the overall composition of the picture more.

I drew his arms the exact same pretty much.

Oh well, tomorrow is another day and I'll try to time that one out better. That's obviously Nightcrawler. He is blue and can teleport. I think he just died?

So since I posted my little try harder speech, I've put up ZERO blog posts in 2 months. I guess that is on par for this blogs unofficial rules, but that isn't how you get better at art.

So I am going to go back to the try to post something everyday route that a lot of bloggers swear they will try to do and fail at. It'll be a fitting end to January to make a resolution that I'll end up not resolving.

Anyway, I'm stealing an exercise from one of my favorite artists, Eric Canete, but I'm putting my not as good as him twist on it.

He takes 90 minutes to finish as much of a picture as he can. Almost always the pictures are fantastic fully inked pieces. Things that would take me about 3 weeks or something to barely come close to at my current no practice level.

So I am taking 2 hours and just trying to get as much as I can done everyday. As you can tell right now, I barely got to the shading stage.

Hopefully this helps me get better, because that is what I want to do. I need to learn how to draw clothing and folds. I'm just throwing wild punches on that picture there. That's what I get for not paying attention in art class in high school.

That's a character from Darkstalkers named Hsien-Ko. It's a chinese vampire zombie thing that is adorable and is actually two sisters. That's pretty much all you need to know as this post is getting kinda long.

Anyway, here is a mock up sketch for an arcade stick. The same person who commissioned me once, wants another picture. This is what he wanted. Perona from One Piece looking snarky with some tea and ghosties. For whatever reason I feel like going all super detailing on the little corner. We'll see how that turns out.

Twenty Five

In two days I will be 25 years old. According to current US life expectancy, that is about 1/3rd of my life.

Like the past 4 years since I've dropped out of college, this was supposed to be the year I drew my little comic. Where I drew more then I've ever drawn before.

It was of course, not what happened. I drew 11 pictures total this year. The quality of them, lets face it, was a little above average. Many of the talented artists I want to be like could have matched that output in a day or two, easily.

There is no secret to what needs to be done. I have to draw more. Period.

I don't feel like I've wasted one third of my life, but if I really want to be a comic book artist/graphic novelist guy, I need to get something started, something completed. A real series of pages that forms a story.

Sitting there and looking at other people younger than me's work and saying "I could do something better than that" and not doing anything is barely acceptable now when I'm still on the good side of 20 something. It will just be pathetic if I'm a 26 year old with no education grasping for straws at a dream that I make no attempt to complete.

Don Draper-esque Summer Man spiel aside, if I don't get something, ANYTHING, done by the time I am 26, I need to find new life goal career wise.

Obviously typing this accomplishes nothing, but at least it will always be here for me to see. To serve as a reminder that doing nothing hasn't worked out.

Here are three goals to keep in mind for the 25th year of your life.

-Fill 2 sketchbooks
-Complete the first chapter of your comic story
-Garner some sort of attention from an artist you admire/some sort of news source (blog, site, whatever). Basically a notice that you are doing something right.

That may seem small, but compared to what I've done in the past half decade, anything will be a giant step for me.

With that having been typed to the non readers of this blog, lets hopefully not get back to the usual business of not updating said blog.

Forreals though, all done. The One Piece Shichibukai set is done. Now it's time to do two example pictures of what you will get when you don't commission me, and probably finally start working on my comic book nerd story. I can't wait till it becomes a movie and I become so rich and great. Oh material dreams, you are so far away.

My Modem is dead

Sometimes my internet doesn't work for short periods of time. Last week it stopped working for 3 days. I got mad and broke my modem which was already probably broken. DOH. Instead of getting a new one, I'm just going to wait a month and a half (until Fantasy Basketball season, SPORTS!) and then restart my interwebs.

Until then, we'll just have to have once a week updates, hopefully filled with multiple drawings. I will also try my bestest to write my story. God I hope I write a non dumb story.

Well that's it for now. 1 more Shichibukai picture to go. I'll probably just do a million more One Piece pictures anyway because I love dat One Piece.

Lets play good news bad news.

We'll do the good news first. I finished another picture.

Bad news, I tried to rush to finish another picture and messed it up. This made me realize rushing to finish the pictures just isn't fun. I've realized I am not going to finish the 8 pictures by July 31st, and I've also realized that that really isn't that big of a deal.

Am I quitting? No. I will just be taking my time on the final three pictures to make them the best I can and enjoy it. Getting all jacked up on eXXXtreme Ollie drinks isn't really my cup of tea anyway. I will now proceed to happily go to bed and get a good nights rest and continue to update my readerless blog tomorrow.

Two more sketches. Did a new Jinbei sketch because the first one was boring and I tweaked the Boa sketch composition wise. The dress and her legs are going to be a big problem for me. I've never been good at drawing folds in clothing. I might have to dress up a friend in a skirt like that made out of a blanket or something so I can figure out how to draw her dress coming out of the snake.

Well I almost finished all the rough sketches but then I got a case of the sleepies from not getting enough shut eye in the past two days. (I'd like to say it's because I was drawing so much, but I am easily distracted and lazy)

I have about 9 days to finish each of the pictures. Basically 1 day each to polish and shine up. There are lots of mistakes to fix, this should be "fun". Hoorah.

Here is a slightly more detailed sketch of the not very detailed sketch I put up yesterday. It's Naruto's Daddy. The four 4th Hokage's around the center hokage are going to be blurred after images because he can teleport. It should be a lot easier to understand when I redraw it with pencil. At least I think it should.

Nighttime edit - Here is some tighter lines of two of the poses. Just trying to lock into the look of the character.

Up all Night edit - I did two more tighter poses and assembled like a puzzle into a newer more exciting layout.

I thought I was going to be able to draw until 9:30ish tonight before I went to see Inception. NOPE! We are leaving now to eat things and then see the movie.

I know no one reads this, but I don't care. I am posting this to have a post for today that I can edit when I get home.

I actually have a little drawing that is ready to be done. Then I will be done doing thumbnails for a little while. Finish pictures will be the name of the game!

AFTER INCEPTION EDIT - Well that movie was good, but long. I finished my rough layout'y doodle of the 4th Hokage for the commission project. I will probably tighten up the figures a little before I begin working non stop on my One Piece pictures so's I can not sell them at Oh-Tah-Kon.

Well, my vacation is over. I planned to fill an entire sketchbook with ideas and plans and drawings and blah, blah, blah, but obviously that didn't work out. I can't stay up till 12 tonight doing an unfinished rough sketch like I've been the past week, hence the cheap update.

The second picture is what I've been trying to do daily. It's just a page of figure drawing, nothing special. The first is me working out the kinks of the drawing of Toph from yesterday. No more rock dildo straddling and some fixes in the anatomy.

Tomorrow I have to resume my easy, boring, semi lonely unfulfilling day job. Maybe going back and being sad will be the motivation I need to take drawing a tad bit more seriously.

So yeah, let's try to keep glass half full here I guess?

ROCK LIKE 2010

Here is picture of Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I tried to draw her 3 years ago and it didn't come out right. I think this is a better attempt. Her forground foot is supposed to be coming down to stomp like Toph does occasionally. I hope the drawing conveys that properly.

This is for a commission plan I want to implement in the beginning of August. Basically an example of what you can get if you pay money for me to draw things so I have to make sure it's extra good. Get all the clothing folds right and what not. I am going to fiddle with the placement of the rock coming out of the ground to see if I can make it look less strange.

My art partner and colorist extraordinaire, Curtis Chin, will be helping me if I can do my part for said plan.

That's it for today. Drawing is becoming slightly easier now that I am doing it (albeit sparingly) daily.

Wanted to post yesterday but was too dumb to realize I can just take my cameras digital card and just put it in the computer. Oh well, you learn something everyday. I guess my streak continues, but it feels like a cheap win.

I fixed another thumbnail in my One Piece project and here is an original character rough scribble in progress. Original character has GIANT hips, I think I need to tone them down a little bit because they look a bit cartoonish.

I have decided to do the silly thing and try to post something once a day. Hopefully it will help me with my not drawing habit that isn't conducive to becoming a better artist.

First up is a scribbly bunch of thumbnails of the Shichibukai from One Piece. I am going to Otakon and decided to put some art in the auction. Last time I did it I made like 10 dollars or something. It's been three years and I've barely improved, but it doesn't matter. It's not about making the money. I secretly want to sneak near where I hang my pictures and hear someone say "Oh, look, this is nice!"

Tender artistic emotions aside...

There are many, many mistakes in the thumbnails (as I've heard from my two friends), but I have the rest of the month to tweak, change, move, erase, etc.

Let's see how long I can keep the daily posting streak alive. I wonder what depths I will go to not miss a day? Who knows!?

Unfinished Business

You know I was going to just put "Insert Clever title here" because I couldn't think of one, and then bam, Unfinished Business popped in my head. I am so smart and funny!

So anyway, more unfinished pictures. This time it's of Ramona Flowers and Roxanne Richter from the Scott Pilgrim series. I figured I would draw Scott Pilgrim fanart before the movie comes out and I have to say I don't like the series anymore. At first it was going to just be the two pictures in the middle, but I kept flipping and adding and tweaking and this is the final layout. I still need to fix their faces and what not, but I will probably never get to that.

Still though, 3 posts this month! Do 1 semi finished post and 2 posts of unfinished things = 1 actual post? Who knows. Let's hope for a deluge of drawing come July.

If only my life was an 80's teen movie and I had to finish these pictures to get some girl that is out of my league I'd have these done easy in a 4 minute montage to a great song.

Well here I am, trying to draw again. What's the over/under on future posts coming before 2/3rds of a year goes by? 0.5? 1? Those are some money making odds right there baby.

In picture news, I got blue pencils and am trying to learn how to draw again. I drew a picture of Sasuke from Naruto Z because he became a jerk who does whatever the hell he wants. I like that.

Also in picture news, I didn't realize Sasuke's bromono (w/popped collar!) was actually a jacket with a zipper. Whoops! The sword perspective got a little iffy too, but with all that blue pencil there AND the mechanical cheap mead lead I just don't feel like going back, fixing it, and then rescanning it. I think that was a horrible grammatically structured sentence, but I don't care.

I drew a picture of Mercenary Tao from Dragonball for Corey Lewis' little message board thing. I dunno, I was feeling it when it was a rough sketch, but now that it's "finished" it just doesn't feel right.

I really need to work on drawing faces and need to stop doing the whole "press down hard with a mechanical pencil" instead of inking thing.

Sad post is sad. :(

Ace of Spades

Here is a sketch of Ace from One Piece. He ate a magic fruit that let him turn into and generate fire.

My other e-friend Marlon was like "I am drawing a picture of Ace for my friend", so like, I was totally all, "oh my gawd, I will too, FORREALZ".

So that is what I did. It took about three hours and I actually enjoyed doing it, but I need to practice a lot more. There are tons of artists out there that can churn out fully inked pictures in 90 minutes that would take me like 3 weeks to complete.

All that means is a nice heap of practice and *sigh* hard work is ahead of me.

Oh well, on the bright side of things, two pictures in one day! YEAH!

Here is picture two of I guess a ten character series? Lemme look at the instruction book... 12, 12 character series from Blazblue.

Who's next? I don't know, it's my computer pal's turn to choose. This picture didn't come out as clean as I usually strive for, but that's because I'm trying to do these without having to draw the same picture three times (thumbnail, rough sketch, and final copy bootleg light boxed on the window during the daytime). It's like practice, but it's FUN. OMG!

My internet pal and art partner Curtis "PsychoSquall" Chin was like "I want to draw the BB characters", so I said "Okay", and now we are doing an "art jam" like the hip internet artist kids do.

He picked Arakune, a blob thing that is full of bugs. Next up is Carl Clover, a little kid who uses da Puppets and wears a top hat.

Regular 5 Month Check Up

I figured it's been like 5 months so I've decided to post another picture. Will I post again before the next weeks end or will I disappear for another 5 months? Who knows! No one reads this blog!

That is Admiral Aokiji from One Piece. He is a member of the marines and can turn into an ice man. I stole that background icicle stuff from Corey Lewis, I enjoy his artwork. I am not good at coloring digitally. It doesn't help I am using Paint Shop Pro 7 and am coloring with the mouse. Oh well, it came out pretty not horrible so that's a plus.

It's been nine months since I last posted on my blog, not much has happened in my life, and I don't post about my life on here anyway so that doesn't matter.

Here is a picture I did with my internet pal Curtis Chin for the Darkstalkers tribute artbook. He colored the hell out of my ghetto dirty pencils.

It got rejected, which made me sad because I wanted to get into the book and get a free copy. I guess it had too much White Slavery or something. Oh well, good job to everyone who got in. Udon still sucks butt anyway. ( even if I got in, it wouldn't change the fact that they suck butt )

I guess I'll try drawing things on a regular basis again? Who knows. If you follow this blog ( ? ) I wouldn't expect much.

PS - Thank you for the uplifting comments on the 9 month old post. I really do appreciate them but I guess I failed pretty horribly at showing that.

Beat Street Generation

The Street Fighter III Ryu Final manga by Masahiko Nakahira is very entertaining.

I drew this picture of Ryu after reading it over again, many a forenight ago.

He is supposed to be taking a break on the road during one of his many long walks, looking all introspective and what not, thinking about rice balls or Akuma or whatever Reeyooh ( Rooh? Ryeooh? ) thinks about when he takes a break on the road.

I kinda like how it turned out. Maybe I am actually getting better?

Hello everyone who doesn't read this blog which I don't write anything on.

After taking a "break" for nearly 5 months and not doing any new art, I have decided to end my amazing streak and draw something.

Posted above is a picture of the Northern Cliff of Briggs AKA Olivia Milla Armstrong from the great Full Metal Alchemist manga by Hiromu Arakawa.

Can I continue to produce mediocre art on a daily basis? Almost certainly not. I'm sure in half a year I'll be back with something else.

For whatever reason I decided to do a little drawing of Kiki from "Kiki's Delivery Service", my favorite Miyazaki movie.

I wasn't going to put text on there, but decided to at the last minute anyway. It's only a quick little "sketch" anyway and it ramps up the cuteness to a whole other level. ( maybe it's too cute? perhaps loli level cute? )

OMG, IT'S NEW ART!

These are pictures of Rolento and Dudley from Street Fighter if they were girls.

It's for a lil art get together at the Shoryuken.com fan art forums. It's based on a move in Darkstalkers where the characters get changed into girls ( among other things )

I really wanted to color this, but I am just not really feeling computer coloring at all anymore.

I need to get some of those Manga Markers, but I am too poor right now. Until then, no coloring I guess. I just don't like doing it with the mouse.

Strider Striding

Bootleg picture of Strider, usually I'm not all about being Mr "This picture is bad, look at all the mistakes I made", but this one is a doozy. ( the first draft was even worst, by golly did I do a number on his arm the first time, see below! )

Instead of taking forever to fix it, I just drew it up with his "improved" arm, and now am consider it an experiment in perspective.

I also want to draw the girl from Paprika.
